About Gehringer

Gehringer:
Where craftsmanship meets rebellion.

We are Gehringer.
We are not ordinary carpenters. This is not a factory that marches to the beat. We are a workshop full of restlessness, full of ideas, full of an irrepressible desire to push the boundaries of what is possible. We have shaped wood for over 375 years, but anyone who thinks that we hang our hat solely on tradition must not know us too well.

Who we are.

We are wild dogs. Driven by curiosity, an insatiable thirst for innovation, and the indomitable will to do things differently, we simply don´t do ordinary. We believe in something more; in furniture that tells stories, constructed of materials that are processed with the utmost precision and passion. Above all we believe that the best craftsmanship is not stuck in the past, only rooted there, and the finest craftsman fear not the frontier, but live there.

Our origin.
What remains when everything goes.
The story of Gehringer: between monastery, power and clarity.

Some stories begin with an idea. Ours begins with a sound: the creaking of a wagon wheel on cobbled monastery ground. The rhythmic sound of iron on wood when a peg is hammered in by hand. The quiet breathing of a man who takes his time. Because he knows that time is the only real thing.

The year is 1650. The Langheim Cistercian Monastery is a place of knowledge, discipline and silence. It will become a place of craftsmanship. Between the library and the bakery, the refectory and the wine store, there is a room where there are no books, no shavings. Not feathers, but chisels.

There worked Georg Gehringer: A cartwright who troubled himself not with how quickly something could be built, but how well. Who made his wagon axles not just to measure, but by feel. With confidence in his craft Georg often said: "If the wheels don´t run quietly, there must be something wrong with the road."

The hand as a tool.
Time as a touchstone.

Back then, in the shadow of the monastery walls, craftsmanship was not unordinary. It was life itself. And yet: Not everyone knew how to shape a promise out of wood. The Gehringer family did. Again and again. Better and better.

They remained loyal to the village for centuries. Not out of duty, but conviction. Lichtenfels, Klosterlangheim, the Upper Franconia of quiet strength: none of this is a coincidence. It is origin. It is soil.

When other industries joined, the Gehringers remained independent. As machines got louder and louder, they listened more closely. When mass became the benchmark, they looked for depth. What they built was never loud, but lasted. What they made was never cheap; it was loved.

Across generations.

A company that has not only experienced history, but has outlasted it.

The Gehringer family has been working with wood for over three and a half centuries. During this time kingdoms were founded and overthrown, empires were built and crumbled, Napoleon marched through Europe, the railroad conquered the continent, steam engines became data streams. Germany became an empire, a republic, a dictatorship. And then democratic again. Two world wars shook the earth, but work continued in Klosterlangheim. Always with a steady hand. Always with a clear view. Always with wood.

Gehringer has lived through times when everything was in flux.

And that is precisely why we understand what really remains.
Not the loudest. Not the fastest. But what was made with care. With attitude. With lasting identity.

While societies reinvented themselves, while technologies came and went, one thing remained constant: the love of material, detail and form. Horse-drawn carriages were built - sturdy, beautiful, functional. Today, furniture is created that is reminiscent of spaceships: sculptural, precise, futuristic, and yet made from the same material, with the same respect.

For Gehringer, wood is not a trend material. It is a companion through time. What changes is the form. What remains is the soul. A soul that has survived for centuries and carries it forward. In every project. In every room. In every life that decides to live with it.

From car to path.
From tool to vision.

The Gehringers did not build careers: They built substance. Generation after generation, the Family's knowledge was further refined: from building wheels to furniture, from furniture to rooms, from rooms to mental models.

While the world changed they stuck to what mattered:
Wood. Craft. Attitude.

Today, Johannes and Matthias are the twelfth generation of the Gehringer Family to carry the work forward. They are not at the end of a line. They are the beginning of a new chapter. They build furniture that does not simply fill rooms but expresses attitudes. They don't think in terms of products, but of possibilities.

Klosterlangheim is not a location.
It is a promise.

If you walk through the area today where the monks once prayed and the Gehringers worked, you can still feel it: the energy of the origin. It's in the air. In the workbenches. In every piece of furniture that is created here.

Gehringer has not invented a story for history´s sake.
Gehringer is History.
It´s story is as much a part of the past as the Monk and the Monastery, as the Cartwright and the wagon wheel.

And this story is alive.
In new lines, new materials, new ideas.
In Stealth. In Modularis. In Bespoke. In a way of thinking that cannot be limited but always remains rooted.

Gehringer designs the antiques of the future.

Because that is what has always characterized Gehringer:

The ability to see the new in the old.

The idea in the material.
The future in detail.

Our customers are not just buyers:
They are co-creators.
We don't build furniture for the mass market. We build furniture for people who know who they are. People with a clear idea of quality, style and individuality. People who don't want just any table, but their table. People who are not looking for a finished product, but for a solution that is tailored to their wishes, their life, their space, their dreams.

Because that is our aim: not just to make beautiful furniture, but something that fits you as if it had always been a part of you. Our furniture is an expression of your personality. Uncompromising, authentic and unique. We listen. We understand. And then we realize it. With precision, passion and the courage to break new ground.

You determine the direction, we provide the craftsmanship. No matter whether it's a single piece that is tailored precisely to your needs or a complete interior design project. We make sure that your ideas take shape. No compromises, no half measures. Only perfection.

Wood is our medium.
Perfection is our benchmark.

We could make it easy for ourselves. Create a few pretty designs, send them into series production, flood the market with mass-produced goods. But that wouldn't be Gehringer. We think bigger, deeper, bolder. We see wood not just as a material, but as a challenge: How far can we push it? How precise can a cut be? How breathtaking can a construction look when perfected down to the smallest detail?

Our furniture is not created from routines, but from ideas. Our workshop is not a sterile production site, but a laboratory for radical craftsmanship. We work with rare, unusual woods. From solid oak to deep black bog oak and walnut with its warm, lively grain. Every piece that leaves our workshop is as individual as its future owner.

Three paths to perfection. Because individuality is non-negotiable.
We know that there are people looking for uncompromising quality and absolute individuality.
We have created three options for them:
Tradition in the blood, innovation in the mind.Tradition in the blood, innovation in the mind.Tradition in the blood, innovation in the mind.Tradition in the blood, innovation in the mind.Tradition in the blood, innovation in the mind.
We are more than carpenters.
We are Gehringer.
This means that we don't make furniture for the masses. We make furniture for individualists. For people who know that true quality lies not in fast consumption, but in genuine craftsmanship. For people who see a table not just as a table, but as a piece of identity.

And that is precisely why we remain independent. We cut out the middlemen and go directly to the people who understand and appreciate our craft. We don't want to please everyone. We want to inspire the right people.

We are not your typical furniture store. We don´t make furniture to simply fill space. We make furniture for those searching for something that endures, that inspires, and that evolves with you. If this is you, then you have come to the right place.
